THE DREAM There was a man who had made two promises. He had got drunk and had agreed to one thing with one group or one person and then had agreed something different with someone else.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION The previous night the dreamer had been talking with one family member and had been agreeing with their version of events concerning a family argument. Yet he knew that he had already agreed with a different viewpoint from a different family member. So he was agreeing with everyone even though these viewpoints were contradictory. He was worried that this may backfire on him. The dream seems to play out this thought "you cannot take everyone's side in an argument."

So the dream seems to directly follow reality in that the dreamer had agreed to alternate viewpoints. There was one crucial difference in that in real life he was not drunk when he agreed with both parties. This obviously has some symbolic meaning. The connection is probably this - the dreamer was acting like a drunken person. Often when we are drunk we agree with people to make them feel better. When drunk we often avoid confrontation and simply agree with people. An alternate symbolic meaning could simply mean "what were you thinking agreeing with her. It was really bad judgement - it was like you were drunk at the time."
